Project Impact

(What was Accomplished)

Key Impact:

💰 Recurring Revenue: Designed a feature that could create a new stream of recurring revenue through premium savings tools.
📈 User Engagement: Boosted interaction with goal-based savings, real-time tracking, and personalized insights.
🔐 Security & Simplicity: Built a secure, easy-to-use platform with top-tier interest rates and smooth navigation.

Defining the Problem

The challenge was clear: users struggled with managing multiple financial tools. They wanted an app that combined savings, budgeting, and goal tracking in one place—without the hassle.

Through research, I found that users weren’t just looking for savings accounts; they wanted a guide to help them optimize their money and understand their financial progress.

Why This Matters

This wasn’t just about building an app; it was about offering real value. I wanted to create a tool that could help users achieve their financial goals while providing a solid foundation for recurring revenue through premium features.

By combining high APY returns with personalized savings plans, I aimed to make users feel empowered and motivated to save—while giving them the tools to do so effectively.

Paper Prototyping

The Design Process: From Concept to Prototype

I began by diving deep into user research. Through surveys and interviews, I discovered that people were overwhelmed by the complexity of managing their finances across multiple apps. They needed one clear, simple solution to keep track of their savings and reach their goals.

I designed low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes that focused on simplicity, ease of use, and clarity. My goal was to create a seamless user journey where everything was just a few taps away—from account setup to tracking progress on their goals.

Testing, Learning, and Iterating

Once the first prototype was ready, I conducted usability testing. The first round focused on the onboarding flow, where I simplified sign-up steps to reduce friction. In the second round, I tested the core features like goal-setting and tracking.

Key takeaways included

Simplify sign-up: Reduced steps to make onboarding smoother.

Improve navigation: Made UI elements clearer to enhance user flow.

Clarify goal tracking: Refined the goal-setting process for improved visibility & usability.

Key Features: Bringing the Vision to Life

The app featured key tools to optimize savings and improve user experience:

💸 High-APY Accounts: Simple setup with clear interest calculations.
🎯 Personalized Goals: Users could set goals and track progress in real-time.
🔒 Secure Bank Linking: Integrated Plaid for seamless, secure transfers.
🛡️ ID Verification: Added an extra layer of security with easy ID verification.

Takeaways: What I Learned

The most valuable lesson from this project was empathy. I realized that users needed more than just a savings tool—they wanted something that made them feel empowered to manage their finances.

Iteration was key. Small adjustments based on user feedback—like refining navigation or adjusting button placements—made a huge difference in the overall experience. This project taught me how critical it is to balance user needs with business goals.

Next Steps: What’s Coming Next

(Though this project is hypothetical, I’d continue to iterate by)

🔍 User Testing: Refining the design with more user feedback.
📱 Device Optimization: Ensuring the app works seamlessly across devices.
💡 New Features: Adding goal-tracking tools and personalized financial advice.
🗣️ Accessibility: Introducing voice commands and text-to-speech options for inclusivity.

This experience helped me grow as a designer. It reinforced the importance of simplifying complexity, listening to users, and continuously improving the design. I'm excited to apply these lessons in future projects.
